The Product Quality Engineering Director will be responsible for acting as a key member of the plant management team, leading product integrity through three areas of the Product Life Cycle: Development, Manufacturing, and Market Quality. The incumbent must lead the organization to identify new products, product enhancements, development, and demonstrate strategic thinking skills.

In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with Quality peers in both the production facility and corporate headquarters. This position reports directly to the VP of Manufacturing.


  • Collaborate with Karma manufacturing and engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability of design.
  • Make recommendations to modify part specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost effective production and reduce warranty costs.
  • Manage policy deployment in the areas of Quality, cost of quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls and plant performance measures.
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with Company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety and EPA complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
  • Determine operations headcount needs and ensure compliance with Company policies.
  • Identifies, communicates and drives implementation of capital investments and improvement projects with specific return on investment goals.
  • Manage compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company’s product lines.
  • Directs activities to maintain QMS for manufacturing plants.
  • Responsible for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement activities of team.
  • Manages quality control personnel on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supports concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance and the customer.
  • Designs, implements and documents procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.
  • Establishes and implements metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring system effectiveness and to enable managers to make sound product quality decisions.
  • Establishes collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect improvement of product quality.
  • Analyzes customers’ product specifications to establish efficient, cost-effective requirements for ease of manufacture and reproducibility.
  • Develops quality planning methods for all product lines.
  • Develops process certification standards and assist in process certification.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 3 years as a Quality Manager or Director in Manufacturing 
  • Automotive industry experience preferred
  • Previous experience managing 10 + direct reports
  • Work with engineering and manufacturing in implementing customer requirement, quality standards, quality products, process requirement and measurables
  • Assist and lead engineering and manufacturing implementation of appropriate quality tools to ensure quality products, production approval, and irreversible corrective action
  • Analyze data and trouble shoot quality issues
  • Develop and present executive level summaries
  • Act as a liaison between engineering, program management, plant, supplier, and engineering management
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Six sigma certification preferred
